Intrinsic structural disorder of proteins: from prediction to experimental identification

Intrinsically disordered proteins and protein regions (IDPs/IDPRs) are highly abundant in nature and they have vital role in various biological processes that rely on conformational flexibility. Possessing no unique structure this class of proteins do not obey the rules established to explain structure, folding and functionality of the folded proteins. From the vast knowledge and continuous development in IDP characterization this chapter is intended to guide the experimental chemist/biologist over the steps of gaining information about these systems starting from prediction methods to various experimental approaches that reveal size, shape and atomic level information.
