The Impact of Student-Teacher Ratio on Literacy Rate of Bangladesh: A Study on 64 Districts of Bangladesh

2021
Among many other factors, literacy rates depend on the effectiveness of teachers. The emphasis on teacher effectiveness was mainly on instructor competence and the way their orders are performed. However, other external influences, such as the student-teacher ratio, affect the success of the students. The goal of this research was to establish whether there is any meaningful link between the student-teacher ratio and the rate of literacy. In every district of Bangladesh the report found all forms of educational institutions. Data on literacy rate, number of pupils, and number of teachers were obtained from Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics' District Statistics 2011. Analysis of Spearman Rho was used to see if a correlation exists between those variables. The study result showed a significant correlation of -.354. This mild negative association between student-teacher ratio and literacy rate showed that in Bangladesh, the districts with a higher number of student-teacher ratios appear to have a low literacy rate. The result suggested hiring more teachers to decrease the number of students per teacher so that the literacy rate could improve.
