Study on detection of formaldehyde presenting raw milk by HPLC and FeCl3-HCl reagent.

2010
In this paper, two methods,HPLC and FeCl3-HCl,were used to detect the presence of formaldehyde in raw milk, quantitatively and qualitatively. In HPLC method, formaldehyde was extracted by boiled water and derived by 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine.Agilent SB.C18 column and acetonitrile-water(65+35) were used. The wavelength was 365nm.The recovery of 87% were obtained. In FeCl3-HCl method, formaldehyde positive sample showed purple with minimum formaldehyde content at 5mg/kg.It is concluded that FeCl3-HCl method is a sensitive, simple and fast method and can be easily used to inspect the presence of formaldehyde in raw milk.
