Angiogenesis, the growth of new blood vessels from existing vessels, plays a key role in growth, and wound healing. Insufficient vascularization contributes to impaired wound healing in diabetic patients and the elderly. Tissue engineering is limited by the inability to adequately vascularize constructs to provide nutrients to the tissue core, thus limiting the size of engineered organs.Copyright © 2011 by ASME
