Vision system for surface defects in the hot strip mill of Sidmar

A surface inspection system for hot rolled flat steel is installed in the hot strip mill of Sidmar. The observations, characterized by the type of defects and their degree of gravity, are introduced in the computer by the operator and compared to the quality criteria of the customer. The analysis of the data permitted us to control rejections for roll marks, edge slivers and rolled-in scale. The system can be compared to an on-line inspection line.
