Therapeutic effects observation of Ruyi Jinhuang powder paste used as external treatment of chemotherapeutic phlebitis

Objective To investigate the effects of Ruyi Jinhuang powder paste used as topical treatment of chemotherapeutic phlebitis. Methods A total of 50 patients with phlebitis caused by chemotherapy drugs were randomized to conventional group and treatment group with each group of 25 patients. The patients of conventional group received cold compress with 50% magnesium sulfate for 24 hours, then hot compress for 24 hours. The patients of treatment group underwent wet compress with mixed Ruyi Jinhuang powder 9 g + vinegar 10 ml + honey 2 ml into a paste and avoided puncture point 1.5 cm. The limb swelling cases were observed at different time periods. Results The treatment group effectiveness rate was 96.0%, while the routine group effectiveness rate was 72.0% (χ2=5.357 1, P=0.020 6). Conclusions Clinical effects of phlebitis caused by chemotherapy drugs are effective to treat by Ruyi Jinhuang powder paste. Key words: Phlebitis; Chemotherapy; Ruyi Jinhuang powder; Curative effect
