Wellington airport: The city council's responsibilities
1960
Wellington being a key point on lines of communication and the seat of Government generates a considerable amount of both passenger and freight traffic; more than many cities of equivalent size. Its citizens have sought a handy aerodrome almost since the advent of flying, but topography makes the location of a suitable site a problem. Throughout the development of aviation a solution, though perhaps not an ideal one, has been found at Rongotai - the proximity of which to the City centre offsets and even outweighs deficiencies in either respects.
