Let's Get Physiological (Podcast Review)

2020
Sport and exercise science podcasts are hosted predominantly by men, as demonstrated in our previous reviews. It is therefore refreshing to have two female physiologists, Amy Warnock and Emily Wylde, hosting a sport and exercise science podcast. Episodes are reasonably short compared to other podcasts, but having a run-time under 30 minutes easily allows you to listen to a whole episode during a work commute as well as the opportunity for repeat listening, if wanted. Each episode focuses on a specific aspect of physiology, such as; chronobiology, respiration, metabolism and partial pressure. The podcast uses traditional content formats, such as guest experts discussing their latest research findings, in addition to more distinct content that includes evaluating the accuracy of physiology in film. The episodes also include a feature that attempt to debunk common physiological myths, such as you should not eat before you go swimming. The podcast is entertaining and the two hosts have good chemistry and bounce off each other well. Despite episodes not necessarily containing the same level of detail as other podcasts we have previously reviewed, each episode would make excellent listening for students aiming to study, or who are currently studying, physiology, particularly at undergraduate level.
