Infection of follicle mite(Demodex mite) in college students: survey and analysis

Objective To investigate the current situation of Demodex mite infection in students of Dalian Medical University and explore the correlated factors with the infection.Methods Self-made mite collecting tools were used to collect samples from the facial skins of 628 college students from January 2009 to July 2010.Results The infection rate of Demodex mite in college students was 39.8%(39.3% in male and 40.2% in female).There was no significant difference in the infection rate between the male and the female(P0.005).The infection rate in winter was 30.5% and 48.0% in summer.A significant difference was observed between winter and summer(P0.005).Conclusion The Demodex mite infection is assoicated with season and group living,and not relevant with gender.
