Trastorno obsesivo-compulsivo de la personalidad (TOCP) y suicidio: A propósito de un caso.
2011
The association between obsessive-compulsive personality disorder (OCPD) and suicidal behavior has not been deeply investigated and the studies presented controversial results. However, there is evidence that establish perfectionism, compulsivity and cognitive rigidity, OCPD traits, as factors increasing risk for suicide ideation and suicide attempts. Recent research studies showed an association among OCPD, depression and suicidal behavior. An increase of suicide ideation has been reported in depressed patients diagnosed with OCPD. Some studies considered OCPD as a risk factor for suicide attempts, with no agreement on their severity. The objective of this paper is to present a clinical case that illustrates the relationship between TOCP, depression and suicidal behavior. The patient is a 66-year-old man admitted to Unidad Integrada de Psiquiatria de Adultos del Hospital Sant Rafael due to a high fatality and low rescue suicide attempt. The patient had made two near-lethal suicide attempts in the past that required admission to a psychiatric intensive care unit. Research investigating the role of personality traits in risk of suicidal behavior has focused on the risk attributed to Cluster B disorders, especially Borderline personality disorder. Few studies investigated the relationship between OCPD and suicide behavior, however, the literature is relatively scarce. Future investigations should focus on the possible association between OCPD and fatal and nonfatal suicide attempts. MBDB, a design drug popularly known as "Eden", is the alpha-ethyl homologue of MDMA ("Ecstasy"), a known synthetic recreational substance widely used among young people. MBDB has been proposed as the prototype of a new pharmacological class: the "entactogens", which include compounds associated to the capacity for producing a pronounced sense of empathy and to facilitate a state of introspection. In this paper, an updated review of the pharmacological profile of MBDB is presented. Concretely, we describe the main pharmacological and behavioural effects of this drug.
