Tetraphenylstibonium phenyltriiodobismuthate with dimethyl sulfoxide crystal solvate [Ph4Sb])+2 [Ph2Bi2I6]2-.2Me2S=O: Synthesis and crystal structure

2004
The mixed-ligand complex, tetraphenylstibonium phenyltriiodobismuthate(III) [Ph 4 Sb] + 2 [Ph 2 Bi 2 I 6 ] 2 - . 2Me 2 S = O, was synthesized for the first time by the reaction of tetraphenylantimony 4-methylbenzenesulfonate and bismuth(III) iodide. The crystal structure of the complex, determined by X-ray diffraction, is composed of [Ph 4 Sb] + cations, [Ph 2 Bi 2 I 6 ] 2 - anions, and dimethyl sulfoxide molecules of crystallization. This compound is the first example of a mixed-ligand bismuth(III) complex in which the coordination sphere of the central atom contains a phenyl ligand and two types of structurally inequivalent iodine atoms.
