The Effect of Treating Multiple Rib Fracture with Chest Orthosis

Objective: To evaluate the clinical effect of the chest orthosis on patients with multiple rib fracture.Method: A retrospective study of 50 patients with multiple fractured ribs treated by chest orthosis,during the period of 2008-2009.The changes of symptom and index of arterial blood gas analysis were observed.Result: The pain reduced,the shape of bony thorax recovered,paradoxical respiration vanished,and the respiration functions improved significantly in all cases after treatment.Conclusion: It is a simple,effective and cheap method to deal with soften chest wall that multiple fractured ribs with chest orthosis.Nursing care also plays an important role in the recovery of the patients.
