Investigation on Performance of Satellite-ground Channel Based on a Compound Channel Model

2012
Global navigation satellite system(GNSS) consists of satellites in a variety of orbits. The difference of the orbits and the location of the users produce the different propagation mechanisms and characteristics of satellite-ground channels. The statistical characteristics of the channels have great impact on the performance of the GNSS.In this paper,a compound satellite-to-ground channel model is proposed. Both the weather condition and the propagation mechanism are taken into consideration.Based on the channel model, the relationship between bit error rate and signal-to-noise ratio is given when binary phase shift keying is used. The method and results presented can provide a basis for the simulation and design of the GNSS.
