Theory of Modernity Critique in Lukacs' History and Class Consciousness

2008
Theory of modernity critique in Lukacs' History and Class Consciousness has many streams of thoughts, mainly including Hegel's dialectics of mind and its speculative modernity discourse,Max Weber's pathological diagnoses based upon the theory of rationality, and Marx's theory of commodity fetishism in his Capital. The main task of History and Class Consciousness may be how to achieve the proletarian revolutionary class consciousness. Lukacs' critique on modernity is focused on the two dimensions, that is, the reification consciousness in capitalist society taking off proletarian class consciousness, and its root in bourgeoisie ideology antinomies. However, Lukacs's theory of modernity critique is developed under the frame of Hegelian modern metaphisics, and can not escape the theoretical trap of Revolutionary Utopia.
