The status of voluntary reporting of adverse events by nurses under the no-fault reporting system

2009
Objective To investigate the current status and influencing factors of voluntary reporting of adverse events by nurses under the no-fault reporting system, and to explore rational strategies to ensure patient safety. Methods The cases of reporting adverse events from 2006 to 2007 were analyzed retrospectively. In addition,117 nurses were investigated with a self-designed questionnaire to analyze the reasons why they didn't report adverse events voluntarily. Results The total number of adverse events voluntarily reported by nurses increased 77 cases in 2007 than in 2006.Worrying about lowering the collecting score, disturbing colleagues, dispules, being punished and doubting the confidential system were the main reasons why didn't report adverse events voluntarily. Conclusions It is suggested to set up a supervision team, analyze the reasons of adverse events based on systemic management idea and create a confidential system to encourage the nurses to report adverse events voluntarily.
