On the use of geochemical barriers to prevent the migration of mercury vapor

2010
The migration of mercury vapor through various types of organomineral filters is considered, and the absorption capacity of the geochemical barriers formed is determined. The most promising types of geochemical barriers for subsurface disposal in the forest-steppe zone are revealed. It is proposed to reduce the vaporization of mercury by transforming it to a more conservative phase—the metacinnabarite modification of mercuric sulfide (HgS).
