Investigation of internal compression flowfield for internal waverider-derived inlet

2008
The performance of internal waverider-derived inlet is directly decided by the design of internal compression flowfield. In this paper, the 2D asymmetric method of characteristics(MOC) algorithm was applied to determine the internal compression flowfield in Mach 6 upstream. The flowfield was suggested to be divided into three parts by the two shocks and the mass averaged performance parameters on the exit plane were used for evaluation. The analysis result showed that the flow characteristic of internal compression flowfield is completely different from that of the 2D planar flow, which had better compression ability when the flow loss was almost the same. The two geometry parameters'(internal turning angle and radius ratio) effect on the performance was also analysized and some similarity principle was found, which will lead the design of internal compression flowfield and then the internal waverider-derived inlet.
