ESTUDO POR IMAGEM DAS ENCEFALOPATIAS E NEUROCISTICERCOSE EM HOSPITAL PÚBLICO NO MUNICÍPIO DE SANTOS-SP, BRASIL

2018
IMAGE STUDY OF ENCEPHALOPATHIES AND NEUROCYSTICERCOSIS IN A PUBLIC HOSPITAL IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF SANTOS-SP, BRASIL The encephalopathies differs from any type of diffuse brain disease that changes its function or structure. From the various types of encephalopathy, some occur with higher rates. Among them,  traumatic encephalopathy, uremic, Hashimoto, hepatic, cerebral palsy, Wernicke, toxic, ischemic and hypertensive. The cysticercosis is caused by the presence of larval forms of the parasite taenia solium in human tissue. The use of computed tomography allows visualizing calcifications and possible lesions. Magnetic resonance imaging detects cysticercis in the intraventricular region. Objective: To evaluate patients with encephalopathy and neurocysticercosis. Methodology: The study was made out by collecting the database in a public hospital in the city of Santos, in the state of Sao Paulo. Results: 272 medical records were evaluated, and 9 cases were found. Discussion: Given the information on neurocysticercosis and the encephalopathies found in the medical records, it is noticed that each disease, despite similar symptoms, but with different aspects. Conclusion: Both encephalopathies and neurocysticercosis cannot be diagnosed by imaging alone. It is necessary to follow-up the patient history, along with the clinical practice.
