[Young people who do not leave the family nest: attitudes hopes and conditions relevant to leaving home]

This is an analysis of the factors that affect when and how young people finally leave home in order to set up their own households in Italy. "The IRP carried on a study on some behaviours of young cohorts in order to focus the causes of the prolonged stay at parental home their aspirations and their perception of work. A [telephone] survey was carried out in 1998 involving a sample of 4500 people aged 20-34 years still living with their parents. Afterwards a further survey on 1000 parents of the young interviewees was conducted to find their reasons expectations and difficulties arising from the prolonged stay at home of their children."
