Towards the effective use of multiple displays in teaching and learning environments

2014
The use of multiple displays for presenting information has been advantageous in many different fields ranging from head-up displays for pilots, to the monitoring of large facilities by control room staff; their use in education for enhancing methods of teaching and learning is however still in its infancy. This paper summaries related work in multimodal learning and cognitive load theory and suggests that the use of multiple displays in classrooms has much unrealised future potential. This is supported by qualitative insights from four different workshops that were focused on teaching mobile technology to high school students.
