III–V heterostructure microelectronics for electronic and optoelectronic systems in Europe

1997
Abstract Communication and Information are key workds in todays society. Increasing amounts of data to transfer and process and consumer's mobility are other characteristics of the current evolution. To answer this demand, more efficient technologies are required, allowing higher bit rates and flexible access. Si and III–V microelectronic technologies are developing together in a complementary way to face this evolution. In this article, various application areas developing in Europe and requiring high-speed (Gbit s −1 ) or microwave transmission and/or processing are reviewed. A few examples of devices and circuits, designed in our laboratory for some of them, are also given as illustrations.
