Two Tantalum Borides as Potential Saturable Absorbers for Q-Switched Fiber Lasers

We present the results for two tantalum borides (TaB and TaB 2 ) as potential saturable absorbers for Q-switched lasers. When incorporated to a ring ytterbium laser operating at 1080 nm, they produced pulse widths as short as 345 ns.
