Industrial uses of oats

Production of oats, oat cultivation and oat improvement were the subject of a book by Findlay (1956) and of a monograph of the American Society of Agronomy edited by Coffman (1961). Agronomic characteristics of oats were reviewed by Cameron (1953); Hutchinson (1953) discussed factors affecting the suitability of oats for processing, and Stanton (1953) is the author of a comprehensive review on the production, harvesting, processing, utilization and economic importance of oats. Production, composition and processing of oats were reviewed by Kent (1966), Matz (1969), Hoseney (1986), Pomeranz (1987),Pomeranz (1988) and Pomeranz and Meloan (1987). A monograph entitled, Oats: Chemistry and Technology, was edited by Webster (1986a) and includes a chapter on the past, present, and future of oat utilization (Webster, 1986b).
