The nail art industry has grown quickly and become popularized. However, as customers want to satisfy their desires, as well as seek for service satisfaction, problems related to nail salon hygiene have surfaced as the topic. But, the nail art is faced with the safety issue of a nail salon in both customers receiving nail art service and nail artists because of the lack of hygiene awareness by nail salon workers, poor education system, and the lack of legal regulations. This study conducted a questionnaire survey with 400 nail salon workers nationwide to examine their hygiene knowledge and hygiene practice and 365 available responses were finally analyzed. The findings suggested that married nail salon workers of thirties and over were increased and most nail salon were operated on a small scale. The general hygiene knowledge of the subjects was mean 2.59 (3-point scale). The general hygiene practice of the subjects was mean 3.51 (5-point scale). Moreover, hygiene knowledge and hygiene practice had correlation, which means that higher knowledge, higher hygiene practice. Although many nail salon workers perceived the need to be educated with hygiene knowledge, there are no good institutions offering correct hygiene knowledge and hygiene education and it can cause customers and nail artists to be exposed to higher risk. In conclusion, to increase nail salon workers` hygiene knowledge and hygiene practice, it is necessary to take institutional actions which will arouse the importance of hygiene and provide hygiene knowledge and methods for hygiene management and practice.
