Effect of Vibration on Surface Charge Accumulation of Epoxy Insulator with the Presence of Metal Particles

2020
This paper deals with the effect of vibration on surface charge accumulation behavior with the presence of metal particles at different initial positions under DC voltage of -30 kV. A vibration system with push/pull solenoid and control mechanism was designed to input vibration on the coaxial electrodes and the epoxy insulator. Surface potential on the insulator was measured by a Kelvin type probe and the inverse calculation was performed to obtain the charge density, by which the influence of vibration could be examined. The results indicated that positive charges were accumulated in shape of speckle on insulator surface. The location of charge s peckle and the maximum charge density are determined by the polarity and the position of metal particle after vibration. It is considered that with the presence of metal particles, vibration would encourage surface charge accmulation by causing the movement of the particle.
