Investigation of structural and magnetic properties of doped BaFeO3–BaTiO3 multiferroic composites

2015
We prepared two composites (1 − x)Bi0.95Dy0.05Fe0.98Cu0.02O3–xBaTiO3 and (1 − x)Bi0.95Dy0.05FeO3–xBaTiO3 by solid state reaction method with x = 0.15. The composition of the composites involved the rhombohedral single phase multiferroic BiFeO3 and tetragonal ferroelectric BaTiO3. The multiferroic components of these two composites such as Bi0.95Dy0.05Fe0.98Cu0.02O3 and Bi0.95Dy0.05FeO3 were initially prepared by sol–gel method and their structural and magnetic properties were investigated. The magnetic properties of Bi0.95Dy0.05Fe0.98Cu0.02O3 are found to be much better than Bi0.95Dy0.05FeO3. The XRD pattern for the composites confirmed the presence of the two phases with little impurity phases. The composites revealed that their magnetic characteristics are remarkably better than single phase multiferroic materials. Among the composites, Bi0.95Dy0.05Fe0.98Cu0.02O3–BaTiO3 composite showed significantly enhanced magnetic properties compared to that of Bi0.95Dy0.05FeO3–BaTiO3. While Bi0.95Dy0.05Fe0.98Cu0.02O3–BaTiO3 exhibits square shaped magnetic hysteresis loop, the Bi0.95Dy0.05FeO3–BaTiO3 has a thin loop.
