The relationship of insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome with known breast cancer prognostic factors in postmenopausal breast cancer patients

There was no statistically significant difference in the prognostic factors of breast cancer at the time of diagnosis between 33 patients with insulin resistance and 38 patients without insulin resistance. Conclusion: Several previous studies showed a negative relationship between metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance and prognostic factors of breast cancer in postmenopausal breast cancer patients. However, our study failed to show such a relationship. The relationship between metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance and postmenopausal breast cancer was not well demonstrated due to the small number of patients, unknown duration of the metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance, and shorter follow-up period. Further studies are required to demonstrate the effect of metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance on the prognosis of breast cancer, including larger number of patients and longer follow-up periods.
