Performance of Chicks Fed an Amino Acid Profile Diet Based on Carcass Composition

1973
Abstract Two trials were conducted to determine the performance of broiler chicks fed a diet containing an amino acid profile similar to chick carcass composition. The use of fast growing birds fed a modern nutritionally adequate diet and carcass amino acid levels determined by column chromatography offer a modern approach for measuring this factor. No significant differences in weight gain and feed efficiency at 6 weeks were observed between chicks fed a diet containing adequate levels of all essential amino acids (National Research Council, 1971) and chicks fed the same diet supplemented with amino acids to make the amino acid profile of the diet similar to that of chick carcass. A compilation of two trials shows, however, that the chicks fed the amino acid supplemented diet weighed 2.4 percent more than the chicks fed the unsupplemented diet.
