FOSSIL FIRED GENERATION AND HVAC

The combination of hydro power generating schemes with HVDC transmission is compared to fossil fired power generating schemes and HVAC transmission on the Southern African Continent. A technical and economical evaluation was performed. Different topologies for HVDC transmission systems are also evaluated. The work is presented against the background experience gained during a case study for further exploitation of the hydro electric potential of the Zambezi River in Mozambique.
