CALPHAD aided eutectic high-entropy alloy design

2020
Abstract A CALPHAD aided eutectic high-entropy alloy (EHEA) design method was proposed, in which series of pseudo-binary diagrams based on the eutectic constituent phases were calculated, and a pseudo-ternary phase diagram was established to further guide the alloy design. Under the guidance of thermodynamic calculations, two FCC + B2 AlCoCrNi EHEAs were successfully prepared and the lamellar and rod mixed eutectic microstructures were confirmed via characterization. Despite of less accurate prediction of the eutectic composition, which may be ascribed to the imperfect database, this method provides important message for EHEA design and is expected to help explore more EHEA systems.
