Longevity and Fecundity of Female Boll Weevils Placed with Varying Numbers of Males
1977
The bursa copulatrix of female boll weevils, Anthonomous grandis Boheman, distended greatly and occupied nearly the entire abdomen due to repeated inseminations when held with 20 or 40 ♂ . Longevity of females held, with 20 or 40 ♂ was ca. ¼, or less than when 1 ♀ was held with 1 ♂. Fecundity of a female held with 10 or more males was significantly less than that of a female held with 1 ♂.
