Genetic heritage is the man's most precious treasure. It guides the health and proper development. In dentistry, we encounter numerous differences in the dento-facial characteristics of individuals even within a family; some members have a high prevalence of dental caries while others may be caries free.there have been different studies which have either concentrated on retrospective characteristic assessment, Specificity and Sensitivity of responsible genes and molecular genetic analysis of cariogenic microorganisms. so this review sums upto the various studies which have been done to analyse the and thus answer the question of whether the dental caries is inherited?
