Procedure for separating linear alpha olefins from their mixture in a feed stream with branched olefins in position 2 and / or 3, according to which: a) is contacted the feed stream with one or more linear polyaromatic compounds containing three or more fused aromatic nuclei optionally substituted, under conditions effective to form an addition compound consisting of a linear and linear alpha-olefins polyaromatic compound; b) separating said compound addition the reaction mixture; c) dissociates said addition compound to form the linear polyaromatic compound and a linear alpha olefins composition; and optionally d) the linear polyaromatic compound formed in step c) of said composition of linear alpha-olefins is separated.
