Evaluating recompletion and restimulation potential in Antrim Shale wells

1996
The Gas Research Institute (GRI) has completed several evaluations to estimate the recompletion and restimulation potential in older, Antrim Shale wells. This potential was identified due to changes in operator completion, stimulation, and production practices during the past few years. The recompletion potential is two-fold : (1) wells that can be deepened into the Norwood interval, and (2) wells with the Upper Antrim interval behind pipe. There are also numerous restimulation candidates in the Lachine and Norwood intervals in older wells due to sand flowback and/or inadequate stimulation practices. This paper presents the results of an extensive field testing program combined with reservoir simulation studies to quantify the recompletion and restimulation production potential and workover economics.
