The invention relates to a method for transmitting a digital signal in the inverse multiplexing, in particular via an Optical Transport Network (OTN), wherein a to be transmitted digital broadcast signal which is divided into a number M of multiple sub-signals, each sub signal of a transmitting side of an exclusively this sub-signal assigned to transmission path to a receiving side of the associated transmission line is transmitted, and wherein the partial signals are reassembled into a digital reception signal to the reception side of the transmission paths. According to the invention bit errors in the digital reception signal including the position in the digital received signal are detected and determined from the detected position of bit errors, and from the also known on the receiving side assignment of the individual bytes of the digital reception signal to the respective sub-signals and transmission paths on the receiving side, which sub-signal, the detected were assigned to bit errors. Hence, one or more parameters are calculated which characterize the transmission quality of each sub-signal assigned to transmission distances and / or allow conclusions by which failure mechanisms of the relevant transmission link whose transmission quality is degraded.
