On-Surface Synthesis of Organic Nanostructures and Post-Synthetic Treatments: Decoupling, Structural and Chemical Modifications

In this thesis, low dimensional organic nanostructures on metal surfaces under ultra-high vacuum conditions were synthesized. Furthermore, some of these structures were post-synthetically treated to decouple them from the underlying substrate or to transform them into new structures. Nanostructures are investigated by Scanning Tunneling Microscopy, X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, and Near Edge X-ray Absorption Fine Structure.
