Mechanical properties of stainless steel 321, obtained by the electron-beam additive technology

2018
In this paper, the mechanical properties of samples of austenitic steel 321 obtained by the additive manufacturing method are studied. 3D printing of samples is carried out according to the technology based on the use of stainless steel wire filaments, applied to the surface of the substrate by electron beam melting in vacuum. Mechanical tests of the samples show that they correspond to those of as-cast steel 321 in terms of their strength characteristics. The characteristic features of the fracture of the samples cut from the base metal of the substrate, the zone of transition from the substrate to the sample, and the sample metal show that, when the material of the samples is fractured, finer pit structures are formed, and this indicates a more viscous nature of the fracture as compared to the base metal.
