A setup for investigating the thermochemical degradation of polymers to low-molecular weight compounds using a method involving gas chromatographic analysis of the pyrolysis products

A setup for thermochemical investigation of substances was assembled by using standard laboratory equipment for testing catalysts and chromatographic columns. The performance of the setup was evaluated by using some polymers and a series of oligomers that do not volatilize during pyrolysis. It was shown that the setup makes it possible in a single experiment to carry out qualitative and quantitative analyses of gaseous and liquid volatile products of pyrolysis
