Actitudes no homofóbicas en estudiantes villaclareños de ciencias médicas: respeto a la dignidad humana

Background: the policy of inclusion of all and for the good of all, advocated by Jose Marti, has a broad manifestation in the Cuban socialist project and is a summary objective in the programs of the Revolution; However, several centuries of predominance of heterocentrism have generated homophobic attitudes among some people. Objective: to identify the levels of homophobia in the Medicine and Nursing students at the University of Medical Sciences of Villa Clara. Methods: a descriptive investigation was developed, with a qualitative approach, between May-June 2018. Theoretical methods were applied: analytic-synthetic, inductive-deductive and historical-logical; empirical: survey in the form of questionnaire to students and mathematicians for absolute and relative values. Results: low levels of homophobia predominated among the respondents, the most homophobic ones were the masculine ones of the medical career and the least, the nurses; Most of the parents have a university level or a half, and live in environments where homophobia is minimal, the students have shown little knowledge about the meaning of LGBTI acronyms, they participate little in actions against homophobia and have little disposition to participate in them. Conclusions: despite the fact that homophobic figures are considered low, an alert is imposed on the indices that express social distancing, which is why the training of teachers for the treatment of the subject at curricular level and the mobilization of students in actions where sexual diversity is recognized as a sign of respect for the full dignity of the human being.
