Crystal Structure, Electrical, and Magnetic Properties of the New Ternary Compounds LnAIB14

1989
Single crystals of new ternary compounds LnAIB14 (Ln Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Yb, Lu) are prepared by high-temperature solution growth. They crystallize in the MgAIB14 structure type. The crystal structure of HoAIB14 is determined by X-ray single-crystal diffractometry. The magnetization of LnAIB14 crystals is studied in the temperature range 5 to 280 K. The temperature dependence of the electrical resistance measured in the temperature range 1.5 to 300 K and data of the magnetoresistance in the fields up to 32 × 105 A/m at T =4.2 K are reported for single crystals of ErAIB14. Basing on the data obtained, LnAIB14compounds are considered to be a new group of magnetic semiconductors. [Russian Text Ignored].
