Quantitative Evaluation of Carotid Elasticity in Hypertensive Patients by E-Tracking Technique

2007
Objective:To detect the carotid elasticity quantitatively in hypertensive patients by E-Tracking technique. Methods:With ET technique, the stiffness parameter(β),pressure-strain elasticity modulus(Ep),arterial compliance(AC),argumentation index(AI)and one-point pulse wave velocity(PWVβ)of carotid in 58 cases hypertensive patients and 147 cases normal adults were calculated automatically.Within the 58 patients 17 cases's blood pressure were controlled and 41 cases's were not controlled.Among these 58 patients 33 cases and 25 cases were hypertension with and without other disease. The parameters of hypertensive patients with and without other disease were compared with normal adults respectively. And the elasticity of hypertensive patients with and without controlled blood pressure were compared. The statistic software SAS6.12 was used. Results:The carotid β,Eρ,AC and PWVβ of hypertensive patients were different compared with normal adults no matter the patient with or without some other disease. The AI and PWVβin the BP controlled group were different compared with those not controlled group. Conclusions:The carotid elasticity of hypertensive patients were decreased no matter the patient with or without some other disease. The carotid elasticity of those BP controlled patients were improved partly compared with those BP not controlled patients. These changes can be detected by E-Tracking technique.
