Effects of haze exposure on airway inflammation factor expression

2017
Objective To analyze the characteristics of Shijiazhuang severe air pollution and study the effects of short term haze exposure on sputum inflammatory factors and cell counts. Methods Outdoor workingcrowds in Shijiazhuang city were selected as the research object, sputum was collected before and after work (4-6 hour intervals) for inflammatory factors detection and cell counting. The significant difference was also analyzed. Results ①In winter, the haze in the urban area of Shijiazhuang was serious, with high concentration of particulate matters, sulfide and nitrogen oxides; In March and April, the concentration of fine particulate matters and harmful gases were improved significantly. However, the proportion of inhalable particles was still relatively large. And then, the air pollution was obviously improved from May to July.the concentration of particles and harmful gases were also reduced dramatically.②The content of the pro-inflammatory factor interleukin-2 (IL-2) and IL-8 were significantly increased in sputum after haze exposure, inhibiting inflammatory factor transforming growth factor β1 (TGF-β1) was decreased, and the expression level of the lipid per-oxidation product malondia-ldehyde (MDA) and superoxide radical scavenging factor superoxide dismutase-3 (SOD3) were decreased obviously.③The number of the neutrophilsand lymphocytes increased after exposure, but there were no significant differences. Conclusions Haze exposure has health threats among the outdoor working crowd, which could induce the airway inflammatory response and affect the body defense capability and oxidative stress function.
