Effectiveness of Dance in Enhancing Preschooler's Flexibility

2015
The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of a 45-minute weekly dance session in enhancing the flexibility of six years old boys from a kindergarten in the state of Penang, Malaysia. A total number of 30 boys were involved in this study. Fifteen subjects (N = 15) were chosen as the control group, while the other 15 subjects (N = 15) as the experimental group. The dance sessions were carried out once a week for eight weeks continuously. The paired t-test analysis showed that there was no significance difference (p > 0.05) between pre-test and post-test within the control group. However, there was a significance difference (p < 0.05) between the pre-test and post-test within the experimental group. The independent t-test on both groups indicated no significance difference (p < 0.05) between the mean scores of the control and experimental groups. Although there was no significant difference between the control and experimental groups, the mean score obtained (M = 3.40) implied that there were developments on the level of flexibility among the boys, after they have been undergoing the dance activities for eight weeks.
