Feasibility of mutual accredit for results of alpha-fetoprotein assay among different analyzers based on EQA data

2012
Objective To study the feasibility of mutual accredit for the results of alpha-fetoprotein(AFP) among different laboratories based on EQA data. Methods The EQA data of AFP results measured by 5 analyzers during the past 3 years in the National Centre for Clinical Laboratories and three provinces in East China were collected. The ranges of predicted values of AFP results were estimated by regression equations and mathematical models, and evaluated by clinical data and EQA standards. Results Under the concentration of 100 ng/mL of AFP,the differences among the results from the five measurement systems were acceptable and did not affect clinical decisions. Conclusion In the range lower than 100ng/mL,the mutual accredit for AFP results from different laboratories should be feasible.
