Measurement of the resonance integral and evaluation of the absorption cross section for thermal neutrons for radioactive109Cd

The authors examine the measurements of the cross section for the absorption of thermal neutrons and the resonance integral of /sup 109/Cd, carried out in the heavy-water reactor at the Institute of Theoretical and Experimental Physics. The /sup 109/Cd sample, separated without the carrier from a silver target irradiated in a cyclotron and located in a hydrochloric acid solution, was subjected to mass-spectrometric analysis, comparison of whose data with absolute measurements of the specific ..gamma.. activity showed that the ratio of the concentrations of /sup 109/Cd and /sup 109/Cd in it equals 9.2 with an error of not more than 20%.
