An Investigation on Family Burden of Depressive Disorder in Shandong Province of China

Objective To study the Family Burden of Depressive Disorder in Shandong Province of China.Methods The family burden was rated by Family Burden Scale of Diseases(FBS),and the family function was evaluated by family APGAR index(APGAR)from 900 depressive patients.The quality of life and psychological burden of patients' caregivers from short form 36 health survey questionnaire(SF-36) were compared with health family.Results The positive response rates of the FBS five factors including family economic burden,family daily activities,family leisure activities,family ties and the mental health of family members,were 50% higher.The FBS family economic burden factor scores of rural patients was higher,and the FBS mental health factor scores was lower than that of urban patients(P=0.001).The total scores and factor scores of APGAR in pre-morbid were higher than post-morbid(P0.001)The scores of five factors,role-physical,general health,social functioning,role-emotional and mental health of SF-36 were lower than that of control group(P0.001).Conclusion The family burden of depression is higher,the family function,life quality and mental health of patients' caregivers are seriously worse.
