Dynamic Fracture Properties of PP/PA6/POE-g-MA Studied by Caustics Method

2006
In this paper, the static and dynamic properties of a direct blend of polypropylene/polyamide-6 /polyethylene-octene elastomer grafted with maleic anhydride(PP/PA6/POE-g-MA) ternary system were studied, and the reflected dynamic caustic methods were performed to investigate the dynamic fracture properties of the blends.According to the shadow spot patterns around the mode I crack tip recorded while it propagates during the dynamic fracture process, the dynamic fracture toughness and crack growth velocity can be estimated to evaluate the fracture properties of the polymer blend. Moreover,a typical mesoanalysis on the fracture section was carried out by a scanning electron microscope(SEM) to probe the damage mechanism of blends and analyze the effects of blending methods on the dynamic fracture properties of the blends. The experimental results indicate that the reflected dynamic caustics method is available for the dynamic fracture experimental studies of polymer composites and can provide guidance in ameliorating designs of polymer blends.
