Influence of some clinical factors on morbidity of post-infection cough

2010
Objective: To investigate the effect of some clinical factors on the morbidity of post-infection cough(PIC).Methods: Some clinical factors including gender,age(≥50 years old),fever or cough occurred in initial stage of upper respiratory tract infection, chronic disease, drug therapy in initial stage(≤48 h) of upper respiratory tract infection were retrospectively analyzed to determine which one was the risk factor for PIC.Results: Gender,age(≥50 years old),fever or cough, chronic disease did not affect the morbidity of PIC.Deficiency of drug therapy in initial stage(≤48 h) of upper respiratory tract infection was an independent risk factor for PIC(OR=200,P0.001).Conclusion: Deficiency of drug therapy in initial stage(≤48 h) of upper respiratory tract infection can significantly increase the morbidity of PIC which usually leads to an increased economic burden on patients.
