Catalina de Médicis : arte y poder al servicio de una reina

espanolLa tesis que se presenta a continuacion nos adentra acerca del patrocinio artistico y del significado y su importancia en la construccion de la imagen de poder de Catalina de Medici, reina de Francia. Para conseguir dicho proposito ha sido necesario adentrarse en el espacio marital en la que debia moverse la mujer en general, asi como las caracteristicas concretas que afectaban a las esposas y viudas de los monarcas de dicho momento, sin olvidar el contexto economico y politico social de la decimosexta centuria. Los objetivos generales de este estudio ahondan en el nacimiento y desarrollo vital de la joven italiana para entender su implicacion en el mecenazgo artistico. Para ello hemos indagado su llegada al trono de la monarquia francesa, sin olvidar las circunstancias de la dinastia de los Valois de los que aprendera, en parte, la importancia del significado de las obras artisticas y la llevaran a convertirse en una de las patronas mas relevantes de las cortes europeas de su tiempo y de las centurias posteriores. En cuanto a sus objetos especificos y como novedad aportada al conocimiento academico, profundizamos en el sentir y el entorno que acompanaba a Madame Serpente; como, desde su posicion de mujer, extranjera y viuda logro utilizar las direcciones artisticas no solo para manifestar sus gustos personales sino para perpetuar su prolifica descendencia como legitima heredera del trono de los Valois. En este analisis evolutivo de su trayectoria vital, ha sido imprescindible detenernos en su rol como madre y esposa cuya conducta debia resultar intachable, a la par que debia dirigir los designios de su pais de adopcion. La metodologia aplicada ha supuesto una profunda investigacion sobre la bibliografia que atane a nuestra protagonista, desechando la informacion no contrastada de la real. Nos hemos sumergido en los datos de multiples articulos cientificos para ajustarnos a la veracidad de la contextualizacion del siglo XVI con el fin de entender sus elecciones iconograficas y la importancia que percibe en la posesion de los encargos artisticos. Asi, pues, ha sido necesario indagar en el tiento psicologico que percibia en la autopromocion como senda sobre la que cimentar su poder y su imagen como reina, mujer y madre de una familia numerosa Para ello la tesis se ha dividido en cuatro apartados en los que se han desarrollado los siguientes aspectos: En primer lugar el estado de la cuestion acerca de los estudios que se han realizado hasta la fecha sobre la dama en cuestion y la tematica de su patrocinio. Posteriormente, se ha hecho un breve paralelismo entre la propia Catalina y otras damas de su tiempo que, si bien, en algunos casos no llegaron a reinar, pero si detentaron una capacidad de decision y de influencia en su territorio a traves de un mecenazgo en el que pudieron proyectar su personalidad y sus inclinaciones politicas. En segundo lugar, se ha explorado su infancia para entender las circunstancias de su cotidianidad, matrimonio y viudedad, asi como los datos generales de su biografia pero que no seran de menor importancia a la hora de comprender el caracter y las circunstancias que le llevaron a ocupar el mas alto rango de la politica monarquica. En tercer lugar, se hace una amplia exposicion acerca de los instrumentos que utilizara para tomar sus decisiones y para sostener la determinacion en la que se sustentaba todo su poder. Por ejemplo, la maternidad, la rivalidad con Diana de Poitiers y favorita de su esposo, la mitologia o los festejos cortesanos son solo algunos de los ejemplos que nos muestran la forma de proyectar los mensajes que debian llegar al exterior. En la profundizacion del tema podremos entender las razones en las que se ampara la dama para resaltar cada uno de los aspectos que la hacen ser la que es a ojos de los demas. En el ultimo apartado, se analiza la funcion de su patrocinio artistico no solo para asegurar el trono de su descendencia sino, tambien, para distinguirse de la que es su eterna rival. Busca resaltar su virtu frente a la que no se ajusta a los mandamientos de la Iglesia y en la que, de alguna forma, se sirve para mostrar al pueblo sus cualidades como mujer y como reina. Esta tesis, resalta, de forma implicita, los objetivos y actitudes que se esperaba de ella frente a sus homologos masculinos. Se busca entender una centuria compleja en el que el patrocinio femenino se convierte en una valvula de escape frente a la autoridad masculina, una ventana abierta para exponer sus gustos personales, y en un camino de posibilidades para cimentar su imagen de poder y de propagar la legitimidad de la dinastia que ella y sus descendientes representan ante el resto del mundo. EnglishThe thesis presented below takes us into artistic patronage and meaning and its importance in the construction of the image of power of Catherine de Medici, queen of France. To achieve this purpose it has been necessary to enter the marital space in which women should move in general, as well as the specific characteristics affecting the wives and widows of the monarchs of that moment, without forgetting the social economic and political context of the sixteenth century. The general goals of this study delve into the birth and vital development of the young Italian to understand her involvement in artistic patronage. For this we have investigated her arrival to the throne of the French monarchy, without forgetting the circumstances of the Valois dynasty from which she will learn, in part, the importance of the meaning of artistic works and will lead her to become one of the most relevant patrons of the European courts of his time and of the later centuries. As for its specific objects and as a novelty contributed to academic knowledge, we deepen the feeling and the environment that accompanied Madame Serpente; how, from her position as a woman, foreigner and widow, she managed to use artistic directions not only to express her personal tastes but to perpetuate her prolific offspring as a legitimate heir to the throne of Valois. In this evolutionary analysis of her vital trajectory, it has been essential to stop in her role as a mother and wife whose conduct should be blameless, while also directing the designs of her country of adoption. The applied methodology has supposed a deep investigation on the bibliography that concerning our protagonist, discarding the untested information of the real one. We have immersed ourselves in the data of multiple scientific articles to adjust to the veracity of the contextualization of the 16th century in order to understand its iconographic choices and the importance it perceives in the possession of artistic commissions. Thus, it has been necessary to investigate the psychological feeling she perceived in self-promotion as a path on which to cement her power and her image as queen, woman and mother of a large family For this, the thesis has been divided into four sections in which the following aspects have been developed: Firstly, the state of the matter about the studies that have been carried out to date on Catherine de? Medici and the theme of her sponsorship. Subsequently, a brief parallel has been made between Catalina herself and other ladies of her time who, although, in some cases they did not reign, but they did have a capacity for decision and influence in their territory through a patronage in which they could project her personality and her political inclinations. Secondly, his childhood has been explored to understand the circumstances of his daily life, marriage and widowhood, as well as the general data of her biography but that will not be minor when it comes to understanding the character and circumstances that led her to occupy the highest rank of monarchical politics. Thirdly, there is a wide exposition about the instruments that she will use to make her decisions and to sustain the determination on which all her power was based. For example, motherhood, the rivalry with Diana de Poitiers and her husband's favorite, mythology or courtly celebrations are just some of the examples that show us how to project the messages that should reach abroad. In deepening the subject we can understand the reasons in which the lady is protected to highlight each of the aspects that make her be what she is in the eyes of others. In the last section, the function of her artistic patronage is analyzed not only to secure the throne of his offspring but also to distinguish herself from that of her eternal rival. She seeks to highlight her virtue against the one that does not conform to the commandments of the Church and in which, in some way, it serves to show the people her qualities as woman and as queen. This thesis, implicitly, highlights the goals and attitudes that were expected from her in front of her male counterparts. We seek to understand a complex century in which female sponsorship becomes an escape valve in front of male authority, an open window to expose their personal tastes, and a path of possibilities to cement their image of power and propagate the legitimacy of the dynasty that she and her descendants represent to the rest of the world.
