ELIMINACIÓN DE HÁBITOS PARAFUNCIONALES MEDIANTE TERAPIA MIOFUNCIONAL UTILIZANDO INFANT TRAINER

2012
Malocclusions are usually the result of a complex interaction between several factors that influence growth and development. Harmful oral habits can alter the normal development of the stomatognathic system and cause an imbalance between oral and penoral muscular forces, which ultimately leads to a deformation of the lower third of the face. The correction of facial muscle imbalance and the elimination of habits should be treated with myo-functional therapy. Clinical case: patient of 2 6/12 years presents mandibular retrusion, alteration in the growth of the jaw caused by harmful oral habits: nocturnal feeding with bottle, soft diet, habit of labial suction and mouth breathing. Treatment plan: change to a varied diet in consistencies, placement of my functional apparatus lnfant Trainer that allows an active exercise that favors chewing and the use of chewing muscles, trains the patient to breathe through the nose and swallow with a position correct language. Conclusions: after 1 1/12 years of treatment with Infant Trainer the overjet and overbite have decreased markedly and the patient's mandibular retrusion changed to an adequate position.
